Breach is a multiplayer only FPS from Atomic Games. It holds up at 16 players and features a cover system and destructible environments. Surprisingly enough this is also a XBLA title but is it enough to keep you playing?
Breach is rather large for a XBLA title. It features five maps, five game types and four character classes. Rifleman, Gunner, Sniper, Support each with their own unique weapons. There is also a Recon class but is unlocked once you master two other classes. The game features a ranking system so you can earn experience points to purchase Gadgets, Perks and Weapon attachments. There's a nice selection to choose from and adds more depth to the multiplayer experience.
The games destruction system works rather well. Wooden support beams attached to bridges and houses can be shot sending the structure crashing down. You can even shoot out every single brick with bullets if you wish. Whilst all this works well, it does hold a few glitches here and there. For example. Pieces of objects from destroyed structure can be left floating in mid air.
The cover system is solid enough. Simply pressing the right analog stick brings you into cover. You can then shoot from the hip, down your sight and blind fire. If you have played previous Rainbow Six titles you should see some likeness here.
The game modes available are, Infiltration, Convoy, Sole Survivor, Retrieval and Team Deathmatch. Infiltration has two teams capturing and holding different sections of the map to earn the most points. The mode makes good use of the cover system and will be needed if you wish to defend your territory.
Convoy is an interesting mode that i haven't come across before. Your objective is to escort land vehicles to a designation without them getting destroyed by the opposing team. The vehicles will move and stop as you and your team does. Whilst the opposite team can use all its firepower to destroy the vehicles. You can hop onto a gunner on a vehicle as you progress.
Sole Survivor is the most intense and realistic mode of them all. You must take down enemies with no HUD available and no respawns. It's intense and will have you taking cover. Breach also features a hardcore mode and enabling it with Sole Survivor makes the mode even more intense than it already is. It will take fewer bullets to kill you and will put you on the edge until the round is over.
Retrieval is similar to capture the flag where you must retrieve a Bio-weapon canister and take it to a drop of point whilst the opposite team defends it. It can be fun for a while but is the same formula just like any other multiplayer game.
Team Deathmatch is last on the list and is something everyone should be familiar with. It's the mode you will find in any multiplayer game which has you fighting the opposite team for the highest score.
Breach is a decent game with some interesting destruction mechanics and a nice selection of maps, modes and unlockables to keep you busy. It does have some bugs but it shouldn't stop you having fun.
