Crysis first made it's debut on the PC and is well known for it's high visuals. Now the sequal is upon us and console owners have the chance to jump into the Nano Suit. Crytek promised the best graphics on console so that's what you get. It's breathtaking to say the least.
The original Crysis had you playing in the urban jungle but Crysis 2 takes you to a different urban setting completly and puts you into the Big Apple, New York City. The game takes place in the year 2023 and you play as a Force Recon Marine "Alcatraz" who comes in posetion with the Nanosuit 2.0. I'm not going to go into detail. I'll let you uncover the story for yourself but lets just say, it all comes togeather in the end.
The city looks nothing less than spectacular. With great lighting effects, high textures and shadows that bounce off every objects in the environment, it makes it stunning to look at and so inviting. Alot of the time I would just be marveled at the environment and feel so emersed in the game. Crysis 2 is the best looking game on console to date and lives up to it's well known graphic capability. I didn't get a chance to play it in 3D but im sure it would be impressive.
The original Crysis was slightly larger for the sandbox experience but Crysis 2 still has large open areas so you never feel restricted to taking a certain path. Throughout the campaign you will expereince many action packed moments like buildings crumbling or simply helicopters flying over a beautiful backdrop. Mixed with an excellent soundtrack brings an Hollywood quality to it and isn't something you experience in many video games.
The biggest gameplay mechanic in Crysis 2 is the Nanosuit. It hold three different abilities, Stealth, Armor and Power. Stealth lets you go nearly invisible with a Predator style look. Armor lets you become stronger and absorbe more damage in large firefights or saves you from a fatal fall. And finally, Power lets you Power Jump, Slide and Sprint but the use of these drains your energy alot faster than the other abilities and will need to recharge for a short while.
Both the Nanosuit and weapons are cutomizable. When you kill Aliens you can collect Nano Catalyst from their dead bodies. This is basicly curency to purchase upgrades for your Nanosuit. If you wish to try out all the different abilities you will need save up alot of Catalyst. The Nanosuit can be upgraded on the fly with a smart and clever menu that brings your hand up and with the twich of each finger you select the available upgrades.
Each weapon is also customizable on the go without even pausing the game. Holding up the weapon you can select through the different attachments from a Laser Sight, Supressor and more. Choosing the correct weapon attachments aswell as the Nanosuit Powers depends on how you wish to play the game and which work best in combat situations.
When you think Crysis 2 couldn't suprise you any more it throws in Multiplayer aswell. Offering 14 unique maps and six game modes, there's enough to keep you playing for a while if you become attached to it. The weapondry isn't very large but there's lots of unlockables that should keep you playing. Leveling up earns you points that you can spend on new weapons, attachements and more. Your Nanosuit also upgrades as you use it. For example, if you use stealth alot it will become more powerful and last much longer. Whilst everyone has a Nanosuit, fighting between each other with the the different abilities can feel a bit uneven but it's extreamly intence and fun.
Crysis 2 is not only the best looking console game to date, it's one of the best games available and shouldn't be missed by gamers that are a fan of the FPS Genre.
